Measurements are from buckle to buckle, you will need to allow an extra 1" compared to your normal girth size because of the fleece liner.

We order all Mattes girths to have heavy duty elastic on the buckles.

This product you will receive a SLIM LINE leather girth and a matching SLIM LINE leather liner.

The girths are machine washable. You can then purchase additional liners to use with your girth. Often people will select a darker fleece for training and a lighter fleece for competition.

Which girth do I need for my horse?

The anatomical girth

For the horse with a proper girth groove far enough from the elbow of the horse. This girth is cut back somewhat in the front and rear in the elbow area.

The asymmetric girth

For horses with a girth groove somewhat closer to the elbow area or less prominent girth groove, where the girth has a tendency to into a too forward position. The girth is cut back further in front only to allow for extra distance to the elbow. The cut back section must point forward!

Crescent girth
For horses with mostly short backs and wide ribcages and/ or narrow chest. The girths slide forward. The crescent girth shape gives room for the bulk of the rib cage and belly. So the girth does not push forward.
Attention: There is a label with direction indicator. Always place the girth according to the label.

Athletico girth
For horses with an athletic wedge shaped build. The special cut of the girth prevents the girth and saddle
to slide backwards. Attention: There is a label with direction indicator. Always place the girth according to the label.

*IMPORTANT* There is a possibility of dye bleeding from dark or bright coloured skin onto light coloured quilt. A slight staining is possible from dark or bright coloured wool onto the hair of gray horses. Fading of the wools surface is also possible. This is due to the composition of the horses’ sweat, which can be different from horse to horse. The same applies to dark and bright dyes on saddle leathers.
